Time is marching on. Only 6 weeks left! I feel like I'm riding on a train with no brakes and its hurtling down a hill (or downhill??) rapidly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I feel our plans are hurtling downhill too! Quite the opposite! I'm pleased that things are going smoothly but gosh, the time is passing too quickly!
Last week I felt very emotional. It suddenly dawned on me that I would be leaving everything behind. By 'everything', I mean all that is familiar to me. Not just our family and friends but everyday items/things. Yes, I know that I'm not moving to the dark side of the moon but will I be able to buy Maldon salt in Asturias?? And yes, I know there will be a suitable alternative but these silly and trivial things have been bothering me. It all boils down to it being the fear of the unknown. Although an exciting and new adventure beckons, it still terrifies me! Argh!

Rainbow's Everywhere!

Today I took a well earned break from sorting and packing. My daughter and I took part in the Rainbow Run. It's a 5k fun run in aid of Ty Hafan which is a local children's hospice. We were pelted with coloured powder paint at intervals around the course, similar to the Holi Festival. It was good fun and we raised much needed funds for a very worthy cause!

Adapting
Well it seems that we are already adapting to our new life before we have even left the country - well my husband is anyway! He has just left the house to walk the dog wearing a red boiler suit! When I questioned his choice of attire he said he was going for the Spanish farmer look! Oh dear! Save me now!

Where does all this stuff come from?
Today has been a day of sorting and clearing. We have only 9 weeks until we depart these shores so we need to declutter.
It's quite a daunting task and I have mixed emotions about it. Some things I am happy to get rid of, other things I wrestle with - Do I need it? Will I use it again? When did I last use it? What if I need it when I get there?? Really?? There are shops in Spain, I'm sure of that! Still a difficult task though.
I have sold things, given things away for free and binned lots of stuff too. Everyone has benefitted - win-win!
It's a liberating feeling regardless. It also makes it feel quite real - eek! Did I mention it was only 9 weeks!

And they're off!
It was a while ago when my husband casually mentioned Asturias. He'd seen it on a culinary programme whilst working overseas (there's always a link to food somewhere!).
'Where?' I said, 'Never heard of it!'.
So I started looking...
I found the most amazing pictures of little fishing villages, deserted beaches and snow capped mountains. The fact that the region is a massive producer of cider (cidre as they know it) and stinky blue cheese meant I had to visit!
Before I knew it I was looking at properties to buy. There was a wide and varied choice, ranging from huge colonial style villas to run down piles of stones that vaguely resembled somewhere to live.
Then I found 'the one'. A beautiful farmhouse, in the mountains but still only a stones throw from the sea, set in 4 acres and a permaculture garden too. Did I mention there was also ducks, chickens and geese!
And so our journey begins...
